Welcome to LEDAS - accommodation and decent living conditions…

We are a charity founded in June 2020 in response to the homelessness and destitution of asylum seekers with no right to work and no right to state benefits. With the onset of Covid 19, organisations providing relief from street homelessness for destitute asylum seekers were no longer able to offer night shelters or home hosting arrangements. A better solution has always been to provide proper accommodation and the pandemic kick-started this shift.

We support social activities to foster connections with the local community, access to education and training for English language, IT skills and various chosen subjects, access to physical and mental healthcare, vaccinations and health education.

We aim to give our residents the feeling that they are welcome and can integrate with members of the settled community.

Here are some of our highlights…

  • Our accommodation provides...

► safety in the light of the Covid pandemic and any future public health concerns

► a sense of security away from the dangers of street homelessness

► the protection of human dignity afforded by the privacy of single room occupancy

► the facilities to prepare your own meals and to have them when you want to

► the opportunity to attend to physical and mental health needs

► the time to explore avenues to achieving settled status through freedom from the daily search for food and shelter.

  • What is different about LEDAS?

✔︎ We ensure all charity funds are used for the needs of daily living of residents.

✔︎ We do not employ staff; charity trustees carry out all required tasks.

✔︎ We offer accommodation for as long as it is needed to ensure move-on arrangements are a matter of residents’ choice.

✔︎ We operate a light touch approach to intervention, fostering a feeling of pride and ownership in the success of the living arrangements.

We are members of NACCOM and Leeds Migration Partnership and have been endorsed by organisations in Leeds providing support for destitute asylum seekers.
